The transmission is actually good, it's Chrysler's software engineers that sucks donkey dicks. They try and save on fuel to the point of the trans committing suicide. It should be like a 4L80 and say to hell with good mileage. (but live to tell about it). Aftermarket programming has come a long way in the last few years on the RFE.

idk about that a few guys on the ram forums saying they are toasting there units with low boost. and from what ive read there really isnt any aftermarket support for these things yet

ATS has a 545rfe that says it'll hold 1000hp

Same transmission, the extra gear in the "6" is just programming.

Per AllPar:

The next six speed derived from the 545RFE was the 65RFE, initially used with V8 versions of the Ram 1500, Durango, and Grand Cherokee. The 65RFE does not have six forward gears in regular automatic mode, only in ERS/AutoStick mode; it is essentially a software and name change, which allows people to reach the “prime” gear via ERS rather than kickdown. An internal Chrysler communiqué to dealers summarized the change in a similar fashion.
