Default Tranny overheating question- F250 w/ 4R100...

A friend of mine has an 03 F-250 diesel with a 4R100, the truck has like 150K miles on it, all he has is a programmer, intake and exhaust and the programmer is set for better gas mileage not performance... Anyway he just had the trans rebuilt cause it messed up, I dont remember how I think he burnt up some clutch packs. He got the shop to install a trans cooler, which I told him to make sure it was a good one- Of course they give him some cheapo autozone ones.

Now he says its getting up to like 195*F when hes on the highway, not even towing anything, and when towing a small load it got up to 215. He called the shop that did it and they said it was normal to be that hot but he looked it up and said its only supposed to be like 140-155...

He also said he stopped after driving for a few hours on the interstate and the tranny coolers are barely warm to the touch. Hes going by the temp on his autometer gauge- could that be the problem? What else might cause it to be that hot, it doesnt get that hot when going like 55? He said the fluid isnt burnt and its filled correctly??? Id like to help him out cause Ive worked on it with him before and I dont want him to get ripped off again at a shop.

I just talked to him again and he said they put on the 2 tranny coolers but left the stock one on there too. Im thinking they didnt flush out the stock cooler after they rebuilt the tranny. I told him to take it off and put a piece of fuel injection hose in its place and see if thats better.

Does anyone have a problem like this with thiers? I know my trans doesnt get over like 140 but I have a chevy so it might be different. Whats the normal temp for highway driving?

Thanks for the help

I know, we figured out what it was- they didnt flush it out so the stock cooler was clogged just like I thought. But I would have never figured it out without all the great support from the wonderful ford owners on this site... haha what a joke
