Will stock 3.42's work fine? Do they have hardened one's? I don't wanna put 800 hp to some stock gears just so they blow up on me! The lower ratio I go the harder it's gonna be on the tranny and gears so I don't want to put a weak link anywhere in the drive train.

OEM gears are the best....believe it, they got that part right. Doit! 3.42's to build boost off the line and wow, sure duper gas milage on the freeway!!

And i have a few sets of 3.42s if your interested...
Congrats on the slow ETs, Horrible 60', and fast MPH!!! Im jealous!!
3rd gear boost?? haha
I see maybe 8-9lbs in 1st gear before it shifts into 2nd and I might see 12 lbs if I'm lucky in 2nd before she shifts into 3rd. Just going through them too fast and the A/R is not helping that issue.
Here look at this vid...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37CGbTPOk_Q&feature=user
(I had 6lbs and 11lbs in 1st and 2nd gear respectively in that vid)

Look at the boost graph posted by henry. I only see full boost between 4K and 5K before the small A/R starts to restrict my turbo and drop my boost considerably. I run through the meat of my power too fast in lower gears and when I finally have a good enough load in those gears the A/R takes over past 5K and drops my boost...Small gears and too small of an A/R make for a bad bad combination!!

I hope the smaller gears will load up my engine much better and I can see full boost in 1st and 2nd gear rather than only in 3rd gear.

All you will do is shift your power band up about 500 RPMS, spool later and make power higher. Good for dyno graph, not for track.

Try the gear change first.

Damn that is awesome! Your truck is running great, It kinda makes me want a Turbo? I am glad to hear that I am not the only one who gets nervous when I go to the track.

I have read that gears for higher HP are actually softer than the OEM sets to allow for deflection and reduce the risk of cracking from shock loading. I would trust an OEM gear. For maximum turbo loading and increased strength, try to find a 1:1 set. J/K 3.42s are good.
