Default Dyno testing aftermarket components

I went to the dyno Saturday to do some testing - install Volant air box and ASP pulleys (I used the overdrive alternator pulley to maintain voltage, and it did just that).

Here is the dyno sheet:

For a larger version: go here

Here is a synopsis of what you are looking at:

Dynorun.007: April 2005 - 70*temp, Mods: K&N FIPK, 80mm TB, Dynatech LT, FM40series, efans, !TM, stock wheels, original transmision

Dynorun.010: July 22, 2006 - 90* temp
, this was the baseline we took when I showed up. Mods: stock air intake w/K&N filter
, 80mm TB, Dynatech LT, FM50series, efans, !TM, Boze 20" (20lbs extra each wheel), FLT level 4 transmision.

Dynorun.017: July 22, 2006 - 95* temp, final numbers. Mods:
Volant CAI, ASP crank pulley, 80mm TB, Dynatech LT, FM50series, efans, !TM, Boze 20" (20lbs extra each wheel), FLT level 4 transmision.

What can we tell by the .010 pull? Probably the old transmission was sucking a lot of power.

Interesting info between pulls: When I put the Volant CAI on, torque stayed the same and we lost about 4hp. After installing the ASP pulleys, hp remained the same and I can't remember the torque change (it was no more than -+2lbs).

The fact that we lost hp with the air box bothered Jeff and myself. Jeff went back to look at the air box pull a little closer and found that timing was being knocked down to about 17* in the upper RPM. It seems that the lower octane table was taking over, even though there was 0 KR. He made the change to an across the board 23* in the upper range and that's when we picked up the extra hp from 4400 and up - shown in the final pull.

So the final words here are: I gained 7hp/3lbs by adding Volant and ASP pulleys and a bit of tuning for the change.

Expensive horsepower. I will be making another trip to the shop most likely in September and it should be considerably cooler. We will do another pull to see differences made by temperature change alone.

Good info!
I plan to do the same testing with an Outlaw CAI next week.
