my baseline dyno numbers 68 chevy pickup with 5.3
Well all I did some baseline runs. This was my first shot on the dyno so on this run in 3rd we started higher and I tried to "ease" into this more so it would not down shift. I will do better next time now that I figured out the thing was going to stay together.
This is in my 68 chevy pickup it has a Nelson tune (91 octane), exhaust manifild from an ls6 (from a Z06 corvette), CAI, true dual exhaust thru spin tech mufflers, throttle body spacer
This is just a 5.3 thru a 4l60 with a TB converter.
282 hp and 304 torque thru a dynojet...I was happy.
Now to decide what to do. I have a 220 cam to install but was thinking about milling the heads to get more compression, but these numbers were strong so I assume they should only go up...

Nice numbers!
Honestly, I wouldn't worry about milling the heads. That would be too much time, effort, and money for not much gain. Its going to cost you $100+ in head gaskets and replacement head bolts, plus the cost of new fluids, and several hours of work to swap the heads. You leave the heads on for a cam swap. It still takes a while to swap a cam in the vehicle, but the gains from a cam swap alone are really worth the effort.
Installing that 220 cam will probably give you a 30+ rwhp peak increase. Better than that, where the stock cam starts trailing off at 5200 rpms, the 220 cam will continue to increase rwhp through 6200. At the 6200 mark, I bet you will have an increase of 70 rwhp with the new cam.

I don't think I would run your stock 5.3 cam to 6200 because it won't make power that high and if your not running hardened pushrods or better springs you could potentionally have problems with them.

Thanks BigTex, I keep getting the feeling the head work wont net me much since the stock heads are good the way they are, yea I spun it pretty high not knowing that it had already started dropping that much.
I am about ready to start the swap... it snowed last night so it is just as well be tore apart

the cam is a GT2-5 from Lingenfelter teh specs are 222/222 .566/.566 112
I dont have a cam card as I purchased this used off this site.
I will be pulling the engine even though for teh cam swap it isnot necessary, I have to change my oil pan, the truck one is too low for my conversion. I installed the motor pretty low. It will give me a chance to clean things up a bit...
