Deal on a 408 or not, I have met quite a few people and helped quite a few customers that wish they had never gone with a stroker.

Some of the same reasons devin listed above, along with oil burning, fuel consumption, cost, etc, etc. A 370 with a magna charger MP122 and 10 psi will get better average fuel mileage than a 408, and more reliability in the motor. Been there, done that, have the T-shirt, burned it.

Both strokers I had, sucked at idle sitting in a parking lot or at a stop light. The damn thing would shudder its *** off like the exhaust or something was hitting the frame. Along with normal driving getting SHITTY gas mileage with a tight 2600 stall(single digit mpg) and of course oil consumption. The oil consumption part wasnt indicative of your typical stroker though there were other outside factors that caused that. Im going with a forged 6.0 with a nice set of heads and a 122HH to feed my power need, Im done with the big CI stuff, I dont need 800rwhp to make me happy, its not like you can make that much HP hook on the street and be safe anyway. I have driven a few radix trucks and I like the way the tq comes on line quick, as opposed to a couple turbo trucks I have ridden in that take a little bit to get going. Guess it just depends on where you want your power and how much you really want. A fun street driven blow on the throttle have fun engine I think needs a roots blower, and all out badass top end monster, then a turbo or procharger would be the route if you want to stay with s/c's. Just my opinion from what I have had/ridden/driven.

my 408 ran prety good and got 15mpg. that being said i dont see any point in spending the extra money on a forged crank unless you are going for 1000+rwhp and at that point you might as well go even bigger and do an lsx block. a factory iron block 408 seems like a set up that wont be all that populur in the future. 370(up to 1000rwhp) or make the jump and get a crank and block and end up with something like a 434(1000+rwhp)
i would go with a 122 or a turbo

Forged 370 with a 122HH at 15 psi of boost!
When we first put it together it was over 17 psi of boost at 4500 rpm's and turned it down until we can build a better fuel system. This run is with the converter locked and 3rd gear for the full pull from 25-141mph. At first he is just lightly getting it into 3rd and locking the converter then he hits it from 1800-7000 rpm's. We are itching to get it back on the dyno now that we have converted to the 100mm MAF and had time to play with the tuning. We have a few more small things to do then we will see how it does on the dyno again.
