390" engine in my awd denali, which turbo?
Looking into adding a turbo system to my 03 denali now that the 4l80e parts are coming together. Engine is a forged AES 390" with new GM LSA heads, small cam around mid 220s durations. I will be running a single T4 hotside with a 4" downpipe.
This will be a daily driver with some towing in mind but mostly street fun. Keeping awd, and my 4l80e has a 2600 stall converter. I only plan to run about 8psi most of the time on pump gas 93 octane, with a goal of about 650hp. However I would like to be able to turn it up to 15psi or so for 900hp in the future when the urge develops. So basically I need a turbo that will spool quick for the low stall but wont max out until say 1000hp. Looking at some borg warner options, like the ST80 or S475? Just need to know what I should be looking for since I come from the procharger world, and dont know how to read compressor maps etc. Thanks

Yes we have pm'd back and forth, trying to get a kit figured out. Just want as many opinions as I can get. I do not think a T6 setup would be necessary or beneficial for my goals, but have considered it if I will not be sacrificing anything (lag). I have also considered the mid frame turbonetics 78 with the ball bearing option, but the turbo costs an extra $500 and I am not sure I would gain anything?

I have a gauge for that

I would say something in the 76-80mm range on a T4. Problem is having a good 600hp setup is not an ideal 900hp setup. A quick spooling and big power dont usually go together, unless you are running twins or a much larger engine. I say go with a nice 76mm and if you want more than it can handle then step up at that point. 600hp is nothing to sneeze at.

Agreed, but then again I only want low boost for 600hp. So a turbo that will work well to create 600hp (8-10psi) on an everyday basis but can be squeezed out to 900hp or so when the boost is turned up is what I am after.
Seems like an ST80 might fit the bill nicely. Smaller exhaust housing than the S480 so it should spool up better, depending on wheel/options can support 740-1350hp ($1100). But I also wonder if a turbonetics dual BB 78mm wouldnt spool quicker and make the same power (max 1100 on the website)($1500). What is the best recipe to get spooled by 3000rpm or so for this setup?
