well to say i blew up my 5.3L in the truck now and im thinking of getting a 408 built for boost and try and do it in like a month or two. Want to get close to 700-800 horsepower and still gonna have to build a trans and rear end plus drive shaft. Just want to see what the motor will get when i install it in the truck.

I have a 390, which is pretty much a 408 with a shorter stroke (3.825 instead of a 4) and have a d1, really wishin i had a f1a instead. Dont get me wrong the d1 is fun but ya you'll want more, and a d1 will be tapped out at 800

I ran a D1 on a 408 for a while and made 700+rwhp. It was maxed out and I was having to overspin it to keep the power up on the top end, terribly inefficient and not good for the blower, an F1D or A is better suited.
