Default 5.3 Turbo, what mods.

Im getting ready to do a 5.3 conversion in a 67 nova. I plan on doing a custom turbo setup also. My questions begin with should I still do a cam swap even with a turbo motor? I plan on doing springs/retainers/pushrods, but i do not know where to start looking for these parts. Anyone have suggestions for those that they were happy with.

Also for the HP theorists, is it worth the money for a new cam when I am going with a turbo? Sorry if these questions have been answered, I couldnt seem to find what the best solution would be for my application.

I'll assume since you're using a 5.3L motor you're on a pretty tight budget. If so, then look around and find an 01-04 Zo6 cam and throw it in. It's a great cheap alternative and you can find them for $60-100 if you look around.

Im hoping for around the 450 rwhp.

Do you guys have any suggestions for valve springs/retainers.

Im assuming when I get the cam is when I should determine what pushrods I need.

I would go with the dual springs for valve springs. I am running 12lbs of boost on my 5.3 with only comp 918 springs and 7.4 pushrods. I made close to 450: 440/411 on a stock 5.3.

Just do a 02+ Z06 cam, with that and a 5.3 your capable of wayyyyy more power than what you want.

x2 on the dual springs.

With the Z06 cam you need 7.425 pushrods IIRC.

I will have to research that a bit more, IIRC just doesnt hold up

Ok to sum it up

Comp 918 springs
What for retainers? Does comp offer these when you order the springs?
02+ zo6 cam, and the question on that would be how much hp difference would there be from a z06 cam to say a custom grind or a comp.
And 7.425 pushrods, anyone have a good experience with these from a certain vendor?

Thanks in advance.

I would stay away from the 918s but its up to you.

and Im 99% sure on the pushrod length but I wouldnt want you to order them just on my word.

edit: Just searched on ls1tech and everyone says 7.425 is the length since the z06 cam has a .050 smaller base circle.
