Size. As far as how much of a difference CI wise I dont remember, I am sure someone else will chime in on the size difference. On a 468 I would go with a 8-71 if those are your two choices.

That is the size of the motor they came off of the 6-71 was off a v-6 cylinder, 71ci per cylinder diesel engine and the 8-71 was an v-8 cylinder 71ci per cylinder motor.

The difference between the 2 is size, namely case length. For the street, it would probably be best to run the 6:71. You can put any combination of pullies on it to drive it from under driven, to 150% over, too. For an underhood application, the 8:71 might make the engine compartment too cramped. FYI, on a racing supercharger, the evolution started with the 4:71, then 6; 8; 10; 12, and up to the latest 14:71 blowers.

I would go with the 8-71, the case is only about an inch longer and you can still fit a small cap dist. without any problems. I have used a 6-71 on a 468 dragboat (gas) and now I run a stage 4 8-71 on a 498 (alcohol) now, the larger the blower the slower you can spin it to create the same psi. with a cooler air charge. As far as over or underdrive you can go as low as you want however I have found that anything over 50% overdrive I cease to increase boost or power. I plan on selling the 8 and moving up to a 14 for next season.

6-7psi at first then maybe going higher i dunno. I'm still throwing around what CR pistons i'm gonna get. And if my damn buddy who's got my block, rods, crank and stuff would get back in town maybe i could get something done. Oh yea and this motor is going into a 83 RCSB C10. So i take it the majority of you would go with 8-71 and just play around with the pully size?

The 871 case is 2" longer than the 6-71, the 10-71 is 2" longer than the 8-71, the 12-71 is 2" longer than the 10-71 and teh granddaddy 14-71 Top fuel blower is 2" longer in the case than the 12-71 blower.

A top fuel 14-71 blower takes 800 crank hp to turn at 6,000-7,000hp making 60+psi of boost IIRC.(I am sure of teh 800 hp, not sure on the boost they run).

teh larger blower will take less revs to make teh same boost, and teh larger blower will build boost quicker than a smaller blower.
