Any suggestions for turbo on a 5.3?
I know it is not a truck but hopefully some one can help me out. I have decided it will be a lot less work on my part if I put a turbo on my vega project instead of trying to build headers and a hood. I have a stock 2008 aluminum 5.3 with 799 heads. I have deleted the DOD and will be adding ARP rod bolts and probably head bolts or studs because the heads are currently off the engine.
My question is:
What would be a good basic turbo for this combo? Want to run 8-10 lbs of boost. I was thinking something like the PT6765 with the .96ar turbine housing. This is not a max effort car just want something that will run low 7s in the 1/8th. Around 450rwhp should do.
The car is on small 255/60 15 tires and and s10 blazer chassis. It should weigh somewhere in the 2700lb range with either a th350 or 200-4r trans. and a 9" rear with 3.00-3.23 gears, depending on trans. I want something that is dependable and fun for a couple years while I get my belair going. Then I will put in a cage, turn up the wick and see what it will do.
Any and all suggestions are welcome.
Thank you

Turbonetics tc76/tc78 hands down. I ran it on my 5.3 at 12psi, ran awesome. Running it now on my 365, turbine side is a little small for the added displacement, but still made 650rwhp at the same 12-13 psi. These are ideal IMO for a 4.8/5.3, spool well and carry the topend too.

Slowest turbo build ever!

I have a friend who is a precision dealer and said he could hook me up. Do you really think I need to go to a 70mm? I don't need instant boost cause it will just blow the tires but I also don't want to wait until 4000rpm either. Is this going to be a concern with a 70mm? Sorry for all the questions this is just my first v8 turbo build and all my friends with them are way bigger than I want right now.

70mm with a .96a/r housing at the least. The .81a/r will have you spooling very quick if you go with a p-trim, so much so that you would have a hard time casually driving around without going into boost. A q-trim will slow things down quite a bit, that's what I have on my stock 5.3 with a 1.0a/r exhaust housing and I can drive around and never go into boost easily. With a stab of the throttle from cruise I'm at full boost in just a couple seconds. I love the size, to me its the best of both worlds being able to cruise like the turbo isn't even there which helps with mileage, but with a quick tromp it comes alive.
