Default Updated 9/20: Cam, springs, LS2 chain, crank pin kit done!

Anything else? What to do? Or not to do?

It's a Comp 212 / 218. I'm not at home at the moment, but can get exact specs if that helps. It's a pretty common cam. Those w/. Radix, would u install this straight up, or ...? If running other than staight up, what does that actually accomplish for the blower?

I've read KySilverado's Crank Pin sticky, so I'm not too worried there.

My main concerns, in no order:
-Getting that balancer off
-Nothin drops into motor
-Gaskets not gettin deformed. I don't have the fancy tools, as probably many don't. I just figure eye it up.

Install it straight up. I use wooden dowel rods to hold up the lifters. Works great. If you've done any V8 cam swaps in the past, this isn't all that much different. Be careful not to nick any of the cam bearings, use good assembly lube going back together, etc.

I use a cheap 3-jaw puller to remove the crank pulley. Feel free to call me if you get hung up on anything.

I forgot what size dowels, 5/16" right? I still gotta run out today & get some dowels. I knew that i was forgetting somethin. Last thing I wanna do is get all grubby & have to run to the "Orange Box" & get dowels.

I did a cam on a Gen1 years ago. I learned then not to nick. This swap tho, I'm gonna try to do as much as I can w/o help from my buddy. I kind of have to, since he'll be up North.

I have access to all the rest of the tools , not the $$$ J-tools , but I should be good just he same.

Unless you have a adjustable timing set your installing the cam whatever was ground into it. and what the hell is a "orange box"? is that a codeword for your real installers house?
Oh yea did i mention i like billy better than you..

Getting it off is easy if you use the Chrysler style puller.


I always hated putting it back on more. There are a few install tools that are sold on LS1tech. Don't use the bolt and you should be fine.

New gaskets, or re-using old? You seem like you would get new.... Just remember to put a dab of RTV in the corner where the oil pan and timing cover meet and you should be fine.

thats what ive used 5 or 6 times and it works well

I just used a regular 3 jaw puller....cut the flange off the harmonic balancer bolt...inserted the bolt back in to protect the threads....put the puller on and pulled balancer right off...and then remove the old bolt

to install:some guy on LS1 Tech was selling a bolt and washer set up for like $20 worked fine
