Default Belt Tensioner Prob

For some reason my belt seems to keep slipping off of the tensioner. The belt will come half way off and then excrete a loud whistle. Its actually popped completely off a couple times and I've had to perform open heart surgery on the side of the road. What is casuing this?

For reference: 6.0...Radix...3"....and the belt that came with the 3.4" pulley for the ol 5.3

What length belt are you using? I think with a 3.4" you should be running a 112" belt. You now have a 3.0" so you prob need to shorten that up. I have a 111.5" belt on my 3.2" pulley. Engine doesn't matter, they all have the same pulley geometry. Just be happy your not snapping tensioners. I have broken 2 in the last 2 weeks. read these...

I bet you need a 111.0" or 110.5" to keep it from walking off. Just dont go too tight or your alternator bearing will give out...pain in the *** huh?

How do you know the tensioner is the source of your belt walking off? and under what circumstance does it walk off?

is it half off anywhere else? look at your belt alignment from the side, and what circumstance does this happen?

Mine does it on a WOT run. I nail it and when I let off I lose power steering. It happened once as soon as I stomped it the other time I went from 45mph to about 85mph and when I let off, no power steering. The tensioner broke both times. Could a belt that is too tight cause this? I have the tensioner almost maxed out so when the belt comes off the tensioner travels all the way back to the stop and SNAP!

have you changed out the cam or anything else lately...not pulling the pulley all the way in will cause the belt to be misaligned...
