Default Boost & PAC 1518's = 2 Broken Springs....

I'm not sure if it's related or not, but I have less then a year of wear and tear on these and I pulled the covers tonight for my cam swap to find two broken....Not sure what the heck caused this, I of course warm my truck prior to beating on it and was only running a 02 ls6 cam, most shifts at 6500 with a few very rare hits of 7k.

Bad news for me is I need these springs ASAP as I have two drag event this weekend. After searching my only real option with in stock dual springs and 2 day air, I ordered from Summit Racing Comp Cams Dual 26926TS-KIT. I called Comp Cam direct as these have a rated seat pressure of 129. They recommend a .030 shim to be used for my FI setup and my .581 225 cam. New seat pressure comes in at 147.

Info on springs: COMP Cams 26926TS-KIT - COMP Cams High Performance Valve Spring Kits - Overview - SummitRacing.com

Hope they last longer then these PAC's. They will be getting a phone call from me tomorrow. I'd like to get the whole set replaced.

Are heavier springs needed for FI? Or are springs still chosen based on the cam and lift?

I would say valve float did that but I don't really see how with the Z06 cam and small valve head. I have ran tons of the pac 1218's and Isky 165's with no probs. I wonder if that nitrated spring is more brittle...

Brian Tooley (of TEA/TrickFlow fame though he no longer works for TF) has a few sets of quality springs put together for sale. Might be worth a call to him...

Basically, Brian is questioning a few of the spring vendors supplying some of the big names in the industry, and flat out recommends that if you have springs that are a flat silver color like in this picture, you should consider changing your springs.

His new springs are from the same vendor that TEA used from 2005-2010 (which had 0 spring failures...)
