Boosted Timing Curve
Does any know where I can find the factory timing table?
What do you guys think would be a good base timing curve for a 5.3 Whipple
running 8psi and 100 Octane?
I have read that the LSX motors do not like a lot of timing nor do they need it.(24 deg max at 5000 and up -stock)
I just installed the new MSD 6010 controller to control my NOX retard under boost, so it gives me a chance to fine tune timing.
Thanks

The timing tables are in the PCM. Do you have tuning software? There are two tables SparkAdv. Vs Load Vs Rpm, Open Throttle for Low Oct and one for High Oct.
At WOT I am running 12.8* but might be able to get it up some as I get better and more confident at tuning my AFR. Just move it up a little at a time and keep an eye on your AFR and watch for KR. I think a max of 18* sounds pretty good at WOT but some guys may be getting more. At least on the radix as there is more info on it than the whipple.

24deg seems prety high for a boosted set up. i see 15deg max. not much of a curve, just goes to 15deg once i floor it. i know i need to work on my "curve" a little and am interested in what info this thread brings up.
i have done some research on max knock free power at diferent boost and timing levels. playing with timing between 14deg and 21deg there was significantly more knock free power at 14deg pushing the boost to the edge of knock compared to 21deg. in case that didn't make sence, there is more power to be had with more boost and conservative timing. i never tried less than 14deg but there is a chance that even less timing but more boost could give me even more power with the same fuel.

In my case I can run 22* knock free WOT timing at 8-9 psi boost. No ramp. 22* flat the entire rpm range. I have not tried any more. Dunno if it even helps power. The only time I've been to the dyno I saw same power levels at 17* timing vs 22*.
You could find all the factory timing tables you want at the Hoirst tune site.

Well I am currently trying this- running 18* idle ramp to 28 * at 3000 to get hard pull -then at 4000(at peak hp level for lsx engines) drop to 22(so won't ping) then back up to 24* at 5000 to add power back after peak and down to 22* at 6000 shifts . No Ping
Was custom programed at 18* flat curve but the current plot feels real good-will have to dyno to prove new settings.
I have read that the lsx engines do not need a lot of timing like the early engines we ran at 36*but will tolerate 28*(stock)
Remember I am running 100 octane with this setup.
I do not have a tuning program yet-this is being done with the MSD software.
That is why I would like to see the stock timing table to compare if anyone has it to show here.
Thanks for the help

Thanks for the table
I guess I need to get HP Tuners so I can get into this some more on my own
Have no way to show grams per cyl ??? so do not know haw to read this table
except to read it as idle is .08 and wot is 1.20 ?
Only have map plot and timing plot on MSD software.
