On the Outlaw box....

Get rid of all the internals and keep the shell. Take a piece of Lexan and cut/drill new end plate where you can add four longer screws, flat washers, lock washers, plumbing valve gaskets, foam strips, two new 4 inch dryer bulkhead vents (home supply or PEP Boys) back to back on either side of Lexan center of shell (drill, RTV, and bolt together), Spectre 4 inch tubing and rubber connectors (i.e. PEP boys) and run all to suit your setup. I was well under $50 on this part. Then just add any 4 inch filter of your choice clamped to the new 4 inch connector inside your Outlaw shell. I used the biggest one I could find at the time. Nothing has come loose or cracked in the year it has been there. I am also toying with the idea of mounting some lights inside the shell that I can switch on/off just for grins to look through the Lexan at the filter.

Also I added 100 mm MAF that I leave there whether actually using or othewise on 2 BAR. I also got a LS2 90 MM TB and DrX Link to replace the stock one.

cheers

I considered doing something like that. I'm hard piped from the t'body to the Outlaw outlet. A 4" exhaust 45 degree tube fit like it was made for the application. It won't take much to get the filter inside the box. Guess I just need to find a filter big enough to be an improvement. Where would I find a filter like that?

I used Air-Raid 700-470 replacement filter.

Type - Cone

Flange - 4"

Base - 6"

Top - 4 5/8"

Height - 9"

I am going to look again eventually to see what else is out there now, but this is what I found and have been using since the end of 2009.

That Air Raid filter along with a "Weapon R secret weapon" filter seem to be the biggest I've found that will fit. Anyone know of a bigger one? I'm wary of putting anything on my truck that's called a "secret weapon"

stock air box, cut some holes in the bottom. save yourself 300 bucks, works just fine.

if you are going to run a larger MAF then you will need to change the box.

I think I can re-use the Outlaw air box I have now. Just trying to get a bigger filter in it. Need to fab up a bulk head plate with 4" pipe going through it. I looked at Home Depot and Lowes this a.m. and their 4" plastic drier fittings didn't look sturdy enough. I think I can fab up a sheet metal plate with a short piece of 4" exhaust pipe going through it that should do the trick. It should screw into place without modding the box

I'm speed density tuned. No MAF. Trying to get all 4" from the bigger air filter to the t'body.

Big props to "Chavette". His filter swap suggestion worked like a charm. We used the Amsoil filter. With the Amsoil filter, boost went up well over 1 psi. Thanks Mike! If any of you Houston boys get a chance to check out his Avalanche, do it. It's a work of art.
