Default Call me crazy but....stock cam?

Okay, so I'm putting a turbo on my truck and right now I'm rocking the GM hotcam kit, 218/228 .525/.525-112. It pulls and lopes real hard and I love it for everything I've done so far. Obviously this cam is a little less than ideal for a turbo'd engine. It has tons of overlap and its probably more suited for a N/A or nitrous setup. So I was thinking of putting the stock cam back in. I think the 112LSA and long exhaust duration will cause lots of reversion of the exhaust gas at the boost levels I'll be running.

Call me crazy, but I'm willing to bet the stocker will make more power with the turbo. What do ya'll think? Am I crazy? This will probably be only temporary as I screw with the turbo and until I can find a reverse split cam that I like.

I think you're on to something. I've heard that stock cams do just fine with turbo'd vehicles.

So you wont keep the turbo? I'd say just buy a good cam for the turbo. but....... I'm by no meens a cam wiz, but I think you are right about the overlap. but wouldn't be cool to have a lumpy idle AND turbo spool. lol

I'm keeping the turbo, just probably not the cam. Sorry if I didn't make that clear.

Lumpy idle, sure. But possibly at the expense of reversion and high rpm misfires.

If you keeping the turbo why not install a nice "turbo" cam?

You should go find a Ls6 camshaft, 117.5 lobe sep and they make awesome top end power, the 02-04 is 204,218 duration and 551, 555 lift mine is naturally aspirated but it kicks *** from 3500-6500 and didnt lose ne lowend I like the cam a lot and i have forced induction in mind and thats another reason i chose it

I'm sure they did, with such a wide LSA and all. But it's exhaust biased, which makes it work well with blowers, not necessarily with turbos. You don't want overlap with a turbo for the same reason as a blower. But also in street turbo applications, the exhaust gas can find is way back into the cylinder when both valves are open. The is because the exhaust back pressure is usually higher than the intake pressure (boost).

Because I don't want to change too many things at once. Plus I think the stock cam will be a nice base to jump off of. I honestly think that the hotcam will cause a ton of reversion, which screw me over when I try to rev it to 6500.

I'm still looking at "turbo" cams right now, but they all seem to be for larger engines like the LS1's, 6.0's and 408's.

It'll be just a temporary fix untill I find a cam I like. But like I said call me crazy...I'm almost possitive the stocker will make more power. I just don't like the fact that'll be all done by only 5800rpm. With a 3000stall that just doesn't leave too much room for fun.

For the hell of it you should submit a cam request to Cam Motion and see what they say. While you're at it, call Brian at Comp and see what they recommend.
