Yowsah! That looks like a hot grind...

If you call, ask to talk with Terry, he knows his stuff and loves to talk performance.

Yes I did. More average HP. I wouldn't do it on a FI application with stock valvesprings though!

I see, I missed the transition in your first post, thought you were talking stock cam w/radix.

I did run the stock cam up that high with stock valve springs that had less than 5k miles on 'em. Would I do it again with stock springs? Not unless they were very low mileage...

There's the recommendation. Looks like an interesting grind. Not a bad price they quoted me either. I'm very interested it what more they'd have to say about this.
What's happening with the cam action here.....

I asked them a bunch of questions regarding this cam. Mainly why and what if questions. The reply was brief to say the least. They just said "turbos don't like exhaust overlap" and "this cam was designed for your 4.8L combination." Well gee thanks, could you elaborate.

I asked why they picked a 223 lobe and not the "magical" 224 lobe that all the 4.8/5.3 guys seem to be going with. No answer. I can only assume they don't want to divulge their secrets or they pulled it out of their ***.

Or perhaps they're just busy. You know they're in Louisiana (Baton Rouge), right? Maybe there are some things they're dealing with right now. I know that Terry spent a good 15-20 minutes on the phone with me, and I felt like it was me that ended the call - it seemed he would have loved to have talked longer.

I saw this on their home page:
As you know, Cam Motion is based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, only 50 miles from some of the hardest-hit areas of Hurricane Katrina. Since our business has been growing and our customers are so good to us, we are in a great position to provide aid for those needing it most. While the Red Cross, FEMA and other emergency services are doing a great job, it is not enough as countless refugees and survivors remain without power, food, shelter, water and items required for daily living.

For the last few days, we have personally provided aid to some of the neglected areas, that is, neglected by the media and by emergency services. Even though finding a gas station with gasoline is difficult here in Baton Rouge, we have been driving food to Bogalousa, Louisiana and Waveland, Mississippi. We have sent out two (2) trucks full of supplies from Sam's Club today to Kentwood, Louisiana for their relief. You would not believe the stories we are hearing and experiencing first-hand.
Maybe you can give them another chance and try again. Did you call or email? I suggest calling. You may have to try a few times. I have friends in LA and I know that in the last couple of days I have had to get up early and call around 5:30AM-6:30AM (Pacific Time) in order to get through without a busy signal.

No kidding? Phones are STILL acting up? Damn, I didn't even notice they were in LA.

I just emailed them, but I think I'll give them a call. I'll let you know what they have to say regarding reverse splits and the mighty 4.8L.

Here's Comp Cams recommendation:

PART NO. 54-414-11
01 INTAKE MASTER 3766R
02 EXHAUST MASTER 3767R
03 ENGINE LS1 XR269HR-14
04 GRIND NUMBER LS1 XR269HR-14

DUR @.050 216 220
MAX GROSS VALVE LIFT .525 .532
LOBE SEPARATION 114.0

That is one lame *** cam if you ask me. They knocked GM cam for having slow ramping lobes. Sure they do, but a 216/.525 lobe isn't much more agressive, neither is a 220/.532 lobe for that matter. I'm actually pretty offended by this recommendation. I'm going to call them and tell them to log on to this site and actually see what we do with these trucks. I even told them about my worked 6.0L heads and they still recommend only .532 lift. HA! Sure this cam doesn't have much overlap, but damn, I'd rather have a stock cam with some 1.85 rockers.

Whatever, some "custom grind" that is. It's an off the shelf grind.

Looks like an off-the-shelf to me.

That's a problem with Comp....call 5 times, get 5 different people, and 5 different recommendations....for 5 different off-the-shelf cams.
