Some food for thought. Single vs multi on weight is about 2.5-3 pounds depending on a few different models. And from our testing did not show any difference in the time slips from the weight difference. Having said that.... The single vs multi debate is always a good one and there is no one perfect answer. Every combo and intended usage is a little different.

And on a side note, we can do a multi or single disk in any combo, 245mm,258mm or 265mm with any bolt pattern - LT, LS or 4L80. We make our billet fronts in house and design them to be interchangeable.

TONS of guys lock converters on the 1/4. i find it hard to believe that nobody has back to back track times showing locked vs unlocked.
It's all about the numbers man. I will do whatever it takes to make more power w my work truck than someone's sports car. Lol

Plus a personal 500 wheel goal.

Someone has to have locked vs unlocked track times!!!!!

I have a circle d multi disk in front of my 80e in my turbo ss that makes north of 700 wheel I lock the converter at about 60mph and keep it locked thru the shifts. This set up has worked well for a little over a year and I tow 4k pounds every weekend during the summer. I have not tried it at the track with it not locking but it does pull harder locked. I would figure it is worth a couple mph or better

You lock at 60 at wide open throttle?

how do you know? like i said, mine felt like it pulled harder, but the time slips between locked VS unlocked were the same.

I mean it makes sense that it would feel stronger, and it also makes sense that lockup would give you a nice lunge forward... but if its that hard on the driveline then I won't do it. I had no idea that it hit so much harder than a gear change would.

it's only hard on a single disk converter. lock a tripple disk all day no problem. hell my old circle d tripple disk felt like another damn gear change when it locked.

still waiting for someone to come in with evidence of running faster locked (and not be locking because they were geared/stalled too high)

If I can ever get more then two runs at the track I may try it to compare. I have been to the track twice in the spring since putting the 80E in and only have two runs... Sucks. I do really like the lock up feel of the triple disk as others have mentioned it is like another gear.

Converter newbie here... if you lock in 3rd does that mean you shift into 4th with it locked, or do you unlock and then shift? Could you almost make it feel like a 6-speed during normal or WOT driving?

Unless the coverter is a pile of crap efficiency wise, what do you expect to gain from locking up a converter in a n/a setup? Didn't Skeet report better times on his setup with a locked converter? A turbo setup would be a whole different ball game with a locked converter.
