If you are running a stock 4L80E converter with 500WHP, I bet you are already seeing close to 2600 stall with the stock converter. I've ran into many posts with people running the stock 4L80E converter w/FI and getting great results and durability.

Old school at this end also. Why change it? If it's not broke, don't fix it. I'm building a forged 6.0l and planning up turning up the boost to about 15psi. I'm going to run with a stock 4L80E converter.

ditto. i am considering a lower stall speed converter, because of all that power below stall is being wasted. my truck would need big slicks and other traction aids to take advantage of more stall speed. it spins bad enough with the stock 'verter.

No, it's not broke. Just trying to get out of the hole a little quicker. 60' times are around 1.9 sec with very little tire spin.

I have had PI's and Yanks in my 60's and never had the first issue with either other than the PI being a hair too loose. I just picked up my new Circle-D 258mm 80E converter yesterday. And they do offer one that's not over $1K... But its not the multi-disk bad boy, its a single, after seeing the guts of the single disk I wouldn't be scared of it

I don't know how many yrs. ago that was, but some time back, I too was lookin at converters for today's newer GM trannies. Ouch!!!

All convertors for OD trannies seem expensive. They cost more if retaining the overdrive.

Not Yank too? Guess not.

Why?

Stock can handle that kind of abuse (15#) ? What kind of boost are those w/ great results/ durability running? If they can take the punishment, fine. but if it's a borderline thing, just cause it ain't broke doesn't mean it couldn't. I seek durability in my upgrades, plus I'm not a fan of hulking a 80E down any more than I have to. I do like to save $ tho.

Just talked to Chris at Circle D. They do make a 2800 stall speed single disc converter that's quite a bit under $1k. He said as long as there wasn't a full throttle lock up, it would be fine. I'm guessing there is no lock up under full throttle? Maybe for a dyno run, but under normal circumstances, does the converter lock up under full throttle?
