It has plenty of power, but still needs some tweaking of the transmission parameters. Beings 2WD, no matter where you hit it in 1st gear it spins through the shift point, engine rpm drops enough to cause it to downshift back to 1st and it spins again, sometimes tickling the rev limiter. It’s aggravating and of course couldn’t be good on things, but hey what can you do. He installed Caltrac’s, but on the factory 20” tires it’s not going to hook no matter what. I feel that he could use a converter to help the shift extension to prevent just enough of the rpm drop to keep it from bouncing back to 1st. Again it won’t help the spinning, hell it would probably even be that much worse, but at least the shifting back and forth would most likely go away. In the mean time, I think we are just going to try and lower the downshift point from 2nd to 1st a little to try and keep it from kicking back beating the hell out of the transmission. I’m also not the biggest fan of the LS9 cam, it just losses so much bottom end. Even with the supercharger you can feel when the cam comes on and just sets you back in the seat. Not that it could use any more off idle power right now, you just know it could be better. It does idle well and all that, not to mention a price that can’t be beat unless someone gave it to you. I just personally would look at something different having been around a couple now and damned sure wouldn’t want one in a NA truck with a relatively high gear and tight converter.
It does run good though; it just keeps pulling and pulling, but I would sure like to see what it would do if it were 4WD and could actually launch.
