Thumbs up an evolution of roots blower rotors

this is not all inclusive by any means, but gives you a general idea of the evolution of roots blower rotors, and interestingly enough, all these designs are still used today, enjoy!

2 straight lobes

3 straight lobes

3 60deg helix lobes

3 60deg helix lobes w/APC coating

high helix lobes(toughest to find pics of)

notice discharge opening

look familiar?

... I remember helping a friend 20 years ago build a blown 327 (2 bolt mains with fuelie heads) for his 64 Chevelle. It had a 6-71 and it took him many weeks of waiting to get the rotors teflon coated. Twin Holley 600's with Velocity Stacks on top... heh, they sat almost as high as the roof of the car We spun the blower at 1:1...

Drag racing the car was shortlived. He wound up blowing the head gaskets... inbetween every cylinder... magging found every main web cracked . Ah, the good ole days.

Its amazing the technology advances for the street enthusiast over the last 20 years...

Don't top fuel'ers use high helix blowers? I wonder why you don't see more of them around. If not then what do they use? I would imagine whatever they use, it has to be setup pretty freakin' tight.

I believe only 60deg or 120deg rotors are allowed these days. If I had the choice I would choose a higher helix rotor all day long over a 60deg helix

found these pics last night. This really shows a good example of the forward V shaped discharge opening for high helix rotors:
