Default FI cam experts inside please

(224/220 @ .050, .581/.581 on a 116 LSA )

This is the bumpstick in question.

Wouldn't this be a good cam for a lq4/sts?
Would a stock 4l80e converter work with this ?
What springs would be best to use?

I know I have a lot of irons in the fire , but this is a used good deal

Thanks in advance!

cant say for sure but i can give you some perspective.

i have a 234/232 590/590 114+1

even with a 408 and a front mount turbo set up i consider that cam too large. it needs completely open exhaust(like no exhaust) and a free flowing exhaust side of your turbo to work well. i am 90% sure i would be happier with a cam in the range you just posted up.

if i were to build a 6.0 turbo set up especialy with a sts i would go smaller. i dont know how to calculate overlap but i would shoot for very little. there is going to be some back presure there and if you have some overlap it is going to hurt your power. larger cams are harder to tune and loose low end and slow the spool time on the turbo. all in the hopes of a more top end.

that being said it wouldn't suprize me at all if that cam kicked *** on your set up. , i wish i had the time and money to goto the dyno and try a pile of diferent cams just to see how they all reacted.

Do you have any idea!!! how many people have said that about your setup? hahaha

Look into the 218/214 range. on a turbo cam i have no idea what a good LSA or overlap would be. I dont knwo the overlap formula off the top of my head. More overlap is normally only good on N/A setups.

We have used a cam almost identical to that 226/220 .580's 115. It will work great. I dont prefer the reverse split after trying some different grinds in similar combos though.
We just put in a 228/228 .588 .588 116 in a car yesterday and it works very well.
Overall, the "cam in question" will do great in your truck.
David (quicksilverado) is right about the stall. If you dont have one, get one. You wont be sorry.

I'd think that cam would work just fine in your application. The stock 80E converter is pretty loose compared to some and for traction issue's it will probably be enough.

What size turbo?

That cam may not be too bad since its on XER lobes, which are real aggressive. That means that those lobes have the advertised duration numbers more like a 220/216 cam on XE lobes. In simple terms, on that cam the valves begin to open at the same time a 220/216 .564 .561 cam would, it just opens them faster and more.

Mine was very tight. Booost would not hit good until 3500-3800 rpm. Which was about 35 mph. It was a dog until the boost hit. Running a 2800 stall now and boost hits hard aound 18 mph, which is perfect on the street.

I was pretty much judging it on how small of tires he runs. I'd guess that he could still load it up to 2-3psi on the stock converter.
