Got some #'s out of the Whipple
Ok got some numbers for you guys so I can add to the confusion.
The previous setup was intercooled A2A Whipple 4.8 custom cam(212/218 .531 .531 114lsa ls6 yellow springs stock pushrods)pacesetter long tubes,Made 10-12 psi depending on weather and when then heads stayed on yes the heads blew off in multiple spots.2.875 pulley 6.5 lower crank 17deg max timing.Maf ran out at 5500
New setup stock 2002 4.8 about 65000 to 70000 mi picked it up for 200 off craigslist sold the intake, coils, manifolds, and front & rear cover.Final cost was free
Pulled the heads cause I let dirt get inside soooo while there off why not through some ported 241's on curtisy of me only alittle seat clean up and knock the casting flash down.Ok comp ratio is now 8.8to1also picked up a set of crane gold 1.8's and hardened pushrods.Re did the inlet for 92mm tb basically made a small sheet metal box.One thing for sure the inlet for the whipple kit leaves much to be desired. The tb opening was actually smaller than a stock tb by a few mm.Mustang guys that look for max performance run daul 70mm tb's on the same 2.3l blower for reference. My inlet is still smaller than that.Anyways I also changed the outlet to allow for better routing to the intercooler. The intercooler pipe starts at 3" and bumps up to 4" at the tb for the maf which is about 4"'s away. The pulley arrangement is a custom 7.5 lower crank adapted to the stock Damper (Two belt system so you know). The blower pulley is 3.375 which is slightly less drive ratio than the original setup.Made some runs tonight to get iat's and a feel for performance.First run was 40mph to about 120mph maybe more.Iat's started at 78 deg. Ambient was 65 the difference in temp was probably due to little under hood heat getting inside my slapped together intake.iats's climbed fairly slow on the initial hit of 10-11psi then about high 90's at around 90mph converter locked up boost jumped to about 12-13 and the iat's stayed at 100.
Repeated this run 3 more time same result. The iat's droped very quick on deccel. This is pump gas 17deg. timing maf runs out now at 5200.
So in turn I actually put more load on the charger with less pulley rario but got alittle more boost out of it jus by increasing the inlet elbow.I am very happy so far.I have spent a lot of time working on this kit so I will not consider it a Whipple anymore. Its a 2.3l twin screw as far as im concearned. One last thing I have some smaller pulley's for it and can tell you it is capable of 17psi on my truck but, waiting on 60lbs.injectors, jgs56mm blow off ,fuel system upgrades and better tune.I will keep you guys posted.
