Stock gaskets and bolts are going to be fine in your case roger, dont reinvent the wheel or get caught up in internet talk.
I rode in a 05 GTO, stock 100,000 LQ4, front mount turbo at 22PSI, runs 9.7's @ 144. Completely stock cept for LS6 cam. Is this enough proof that the stock stuff will be fine? I can tell you more ! I just hate to see you spend money and wrench time if its not really needed since your not doing a total HI-PO rebuild . Ok, you and I are prob never going to see over 14-15 PSI with our setups, the stock head gaskets do fine. |
So the 4.8 pistons will drop right in a 5.3 on a 5.3 rod? I know the 4.8 and 5.3 block is identical but they have different strokes but both the dish 5.3 and the flat top 4.8 piston comes up to the top of the hole. How will you be doing this Roger? I'm not being negative as I was just lookin at this option a few days ago abd I scrapped it in my mind

I've also got a set of flat top 5.3 pistons/rods from a Gen IV that would work. They do have valve reliefs in them from the VVT.
|
The 4.8 uses a different crank & rods than the 5.3. I'll be swapping the 4.8 flat top pistons onto my 5.3 rods.
I decided to just use factory GM head gaskets. My original gaskets have 150,000 miles on them, and the last 50,000 miles have been supercharged, with plenty of abuse. The gaskets were cheaper than I expected. I'm looking for a deal on some ARP's, anybody? :) |
Well, I just cant grasp how the pistons can be the same, it seems like the pin hieght would be different on the 4.8-5.3 pistons since they have different length rods, someone fill me in on what I'm missing

Does anybody have a home-brew method for heating/pressing the wrist pins? I'd rather not pay a machine shop for something I can do myself. |
Toaster oven....One with the slots on the top. Set the heat dail to the max. Wear a thick pair of cloth gloves . Only put the small end in though. You may have to cycle the toaster a couple of times to heat in up enough. Just make sure that u heat it up enough though.

You tried this yet Roger? I'm lookin forward to see what you come up with on this pin pressing method..........
