What is the VNT?

Some call it VGT for Variable Geometry- there are vanes in the turbine housing that can vary the AR of the housing.

That is the solenoid that controls the Variable geometry. There is probably an electrical connector for it on the opposite side of the CHRA.

Just when you thought they had enoung moving parts subjected to brutal EGT's, now an electrical one! I wonder if that solenoid would hold up in the hotter gas engine exhaust?

The solenoid just controls a valve that uses oil pressure to move the vanes- so the electrical parts arent really that close to the EGT's.

I wouldnt think a VGT would be in a junk yard, i thought they were new, like 2006 and up?? That would be sweet if he got it to work tho just for the fact of no turbo lag.

What would it take to make it work? I've thought about using one.

Thanks.

There was a guy on tech who had a mechanical VVT turbo he setup with a waste gate type actuator, that when you stomped it and it when to 0 vacuum it "closed up" the vans so it would spool quickly and as it made boost it would "open up" and be more free flowing. It worked pretty well, but the turbo he was using was a monster in physical size. Pretty cool though.

Thanks.
