Default length of dowels for crank pin kit

Hey guys,

I got a pin kit from a friend, but obviously w/o any dowels.

I have access to practically any size dowel pin and was wondering what size comes with these kits?

I have the pin device that has (2) holes that would drill directly towards the crank, so they would be *parallel* to the crank bolt.

(I say this b/c I believe there is a pin kit that aims towards the bolt)

Anyhow, I was thinking it was 0.75" length and a 1/4" diameter, but any insight would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks!
-Mike

Try sticky @ beginning of this section. IDK if it's in there or not, tho. Roger might know.

IIRC, about 3/4" will work.

I meant the other Roger, but you'll do. 2 Roger's don't make a right (Nicholas Cage).

okay that's what I was thinking. 0.5" or less, are they 1/4" diameter or tapered?

Well, there ya go. It's been about a year since I pinned a crank, and apparently my memory isn't as crisp as when I was in my 20's.

Oh, and thanks alot Tom. Like I haven't heard that one before.......lol

Thank you exactly what I needed to know.

Now is the drill bit 1/4" too, or slightly smaller?

Thanks!
