LS9 (ZR1) Cam in a FI GEN III?
#21
Has anyone used this in a FI GEN III 6.0L? I'm looking to upgrade from LS6 cam to an actual FI cam. I know that on LPE they have discontinued their own cam to use the LS9. I know I'll have to change the front cover, extend the cam sensor harness, and timing chain.
160.00 for the cam
150.00 timing set
115.00 timing cover ...

boost27, even if LS9 cam is $97.04 on gmpartsdirect.com part#12605527, shippin is probably $50. anasasisxenophontis (u need a shorter name) even if LS9 cam is extremely similar to the now discontinued GT7, I don't think it's way cheaper. Obtainable GT7's might figure in here. Cam itself, yes. Other parts to make it happen, no. Unless a deal is found.
Charcold-bowtie, said it, y'all are missing some of the point that although the ls9 may be cheaper, its a gen 4 cam, so it will end up costing about the same. I agree.
I don't think the ZR1 cam would be much of an upgrade over your LS6 cam. Why not get Patrick G. to custom spec you a cam. It will cost you a screamin' $25. There are several outfits that will order you a custom Comp cam, with his specs, for well under $400. Jumping through all of those hoops and spending the same jack to end up with a ZR1 cam is a waste (unless....of course....you have "Blown" in your name and you only have 4.8L to work with......).
I understand your reasoning and I'm with you as far as not wanting to have to convert to a Gen IV set up to allow use of a Gen IV style cam, but unless you find a used GT-7 you would be out of luck. Lingenfelter say's they have discontinued production of the GT-7 since there are so many similarities between the two and of course the price savings of the camshaft alone.
I was going to use that cam, the specs, don't remember exactly, were simillar to the ls6 except for the lift. I just put yella terra 1.8s on and have .582 204/218 lsa117, with my ls6cam!! There were a lot of them on ebay selling under 100 bucks!!
