I'd put the beast to it. If it blows it then spend the $ on another short block. Valve springs, and Oil pump Oring wouldn't hurt.

Spend your money on a used, low mileage longblock. Otherwise you'll just be buying a used, low mileage longblock or rebuilding your current worn out motor by the time you get your forced induction dailed in.

Your engine might be marginaly fine at the moment but add the stress of boost and your worn rings and loose bearings will be singing a different tune. IMO, unless you can afford the downtime and cost to do both right now, do the motor first.

I've always thought it's a good idea to get your forced induction dialed in on a "disposable" engine if you have the chance, at least if it's your first time setting one up. It sure would be a bummer to spend money and time building a fresh engine, only to wreck it from one of those little mishaps that we read about all the time on here. I did this with my 5.3 while I was building my current engine, got the fuel system, trans, and a good starting tune for the truck dialed in with a $250 engine, and got to beat this **** out of it for awhile without worrying about ruining a new motor.

Just my input

Do what I did. My truck only has 100,000 miles bought a cluster that had 65,000 miles and she feels new again.
