I think mid 400's is really resonable, but you could push it up to the 500 mark when you are ready.
The low mount kit is rated at 500hp MAX. And you will need to push around 12-13psi on a 5.3 to get it.
3.5DP no problem it does not add much to the low mount kit and adding a cut out, just say the word.
Other things to concider during your refresh. run synethic oils everywhere, engine, tranny, and fresh rearend as well. This will cost a little but frees up wasted HP.
I would also recommend electic fans, its worth 20+ hp over the stocker..
As far as upgrades, Turbos I have here will work. 66mm is a nice upgrade. But you then need to up the IC to the next size to work with the future added flow...
Other upgrades is the fresh air intake system. This keeps your airfilter off the ground and out of the water.
Coating your stock exhaust manifolds will help with heat and just looks cleaner.
Just drop a line any time, more then happy to help get you a set up that will not only work for you, but will fit your future needs as well.

later
I've already got fans... I guess I forgot to include that detail. I'll be sending you a PM shortly... I need to see what my plastic is up against

thats an impressive graph there for sure

The main reason I want to keep a converter is to take away some possible lag and, well, I already have it in there... LOL...

another question/issue.... my truck is dropped 3/5... I honestly dont want to drag intercooler piping or compressor housings off the truck... what can I do besides getting a different kit??? I dont want to raise the truck unless I absolutely have to.

gotcha covered,we will just need to build a shorter IC... shorter but thicker...

you will not need a different kit.

Sounds like a cool build. I like how Rick thinks -only change necessary stuff to support the power...

Then rebuild/ upgrade parts to prevent/ minimize from scattering all over = DURABILITY. Meaningrivetrain. +1-Call Vince. Strong tranny & rearend. That 80e sounds great for you.

DURABILITY! DURABILITY! DURABILITY! <---My concern to adding power to anything( you or me).

If I was buying a turbo, TRICK is my #1 choice. His customer service is top notch from everything I've read. He supports before, during, & after. Plus, he'll build to suit you( Both now & down the road).
I assure you that I would give him my business before any other for a single turbo. Synergy for Twins.
But Blown Chevy beat him to the punch.

i wouldnt go with the 317s on that bore. port the 5.3s, and have them cut for bigger valves. that should knock the compression down to about 9:1. the overhang totally screws the flow of the head, and they look like it will create a hot spot at the edge of the cylinder too.

5.3L:
stock 706 heads
stock injectors
truck intake
hodge podge CAI
224/227 .576/.588 113+3 cam
new 918 springs
P&P Throttle body
160 T stat

exhaust:
pacesetter longtubes
dual flowtech manual cutouts
pace ORY
3" pipe
18" resonator
IMCO muffler
dumped right in front of axle

Trans:
FLT lvl5 4L65E
Yank SS3600 converter
Vacuum modulated
billet this, billet that... LOL...

Rear:
stock housing
4.10's
POS slipping diff

-I have been looking very seriosuly into the Trick Low mount intercooled kit. I know there's alot with my setup I need to change.

I was thinking:

Trick low mount kit Turbos are much cooler!
custom spec turbo cam just get the turbo and go from there
ported 317's porting is good, try your stockers.... Get the turbo
ported 6L manifolds just get the whistling tornado
3000-3200 converter I got that Yank TT3000, but yours would surely be a tire frier
freshen up trans Id do a 80E swap, its easy as crap and the turbo will love it.
injectors/pump(s) Do it right, Twin 255s and i have some 44# injectors to get you started with, i want some 60#s
3.42/3.73 gears (undecided) I got some 3.42s you can try

what do you think?? what would you do different?? Get the turbo!!!

Thats what i think....
Found a Electric boost controller for mine, i think you should get one if you ever get the Turbo...

Stock 04 LQ4
80E Stock TC
3.42s
29" Toyos
STS 5psi W/A IC
Walbro 255
44# Injectors
TR6s
OLSD tuned

It went 13.3s with the 60E/TT3000 but it broke so i decided it was enough and went with the 80E.

So now its prob a 14.00 truck
Goin to get some 60# injectors with 8psi and put a wet shot on it.. 60's went from a 2.0 to a 2.3 so it sucks as of right now.

looking at upgrading it... if I decide to keep the 3600 converter, lag wont be much of a problem I dont think. I definitely want to get rid of the gears though.... probably go back to some 3.73's, maybe even taller...

with the right setup, I dont think high 11's will be out of the question... with better than stock mileage on top of that
