My cheapish catch can
#42
Mine was free... i wish i would have took pics of the inside, but oil would have to do some miracles tryin to get into the intake..
Here it is "Installed" HAHA Yes those are some Zip Ties..

I'd suggest gettting the earlier style PCV valve Ky and see if that helps. My stocker was the valve type and so was the one I replaced it with.
Looks like ill be doing a catch can soon... I unplugges the hose from the pass side valve cover and put a breather on it and capped the TB inlet so it should work in the mean time... I honestly didn't think an improper PCV/crank case ventilation system would go so far as to destroy an engine though.
I think its more widley misundersood than people admit...

I posted up that I didn't understand the system in the original post. Being old and dense I finally drew it up today to help me understand it. The main thing that I didn't understand was the airflow through the engine. What was hanging me up was the thinking that both ports of the valve covers had the same vacuum to them at idle. I was forgetting the TB Blade and pressure differential that creates when closed so now I understand how the port on the passenger side becomes the fresh air intake for the engine at idle and cruise.
Anyway my thoughts on the entire PCV thing now that I've thought about it for a while.
1> PCV is good and I will keep it.
2> The only advantage I see to going to the LS6 style valley pan is keeping flying oil away from the suction of the PCV system. I don't think it evacuates the crank case as well.
3> A catch can is a good thing. For whatever reason I'm getting oil introduced into the PCV system I don't want it going back into the intake track.
4> I think a poppet style PCV valve would work better in a FI situation with a Valve cover breather. Without a valve cover breather I think the newer style PCV valve is better. There would be 2 paths for positive crank ventilation (to the intake track). Less chance to overflow the little return line in the passenger side valve cover. If I were big FI or experiencing signs of excessive crank pressure, IE leaky seals, blowing out the dipstick tube.... I would put in a Valve Cover breather. As it is why pollute more if it's not necessary.
FWIW my little sketch of my PCV system is attached.

Buwhahahah, yes I knew I was opening myself to all kinds of ridicule for that fancy sketch!
Looks good, There were 3 systems I was looking at once upon a time. That was one of them. It should fit the bill. Only thing that concerns me is where it mounts. That may interfere with our J-tube.
