my weekend turned into a motor swap :(
my 99 4.8 is no more. i know this is a very strong motor but some how at 115,000 i blew the motor passing a big rig. didnt know what was wrong didnt sound that bad while running, pulled up miss in cyl 7 ok new plug nothing.... checked for fire and it was good. check for broke valve spring nothing.... compression test.... NOTHING ! zero ! a friend just pulled his 4.8 to put in a 5.3 in his o6 a couple of weeks before. pick the motor up for $400 with 103,000 on it. after many many hours of work we got the old 4.8 out and popped the head off to find a melted piston. i really dont want this to happen again. im guessing detonation was the cause but iv never been in any newer motors iv always built old sbc. and for ppl that dont know the 99s have a different crank and to put almost any other motor in a 99 (mine is a 5spd ) the flywheel must be changed. i have full pix of the both 06 and 99 crank to show u what im talking ab. Pictures by 48whipple - Photobucket i wanted to have it back in last night and its all ready to go in but now im have to order a clutch so next friday after its in and my friends tune on it for a while ill let u know what turns out. and another thing. what do you think ab a 6.0 cam in a blown 4.8 ? thanks and let me know what u think ab my piston

I thought I tossed and turned a little extra in my sleep last night. RIP fellow 4.8L. Sorry to hear this man. To me that looks like it was run lean and # 7 is your hot hole anyways so it was the first to go. You have to remember a/f keeps knock away but fuel also cools as well.
Again sorry bud and I hope you get it back together and running better this go around.
