Need help with magna charged 5.3 build.
I have a 2004 GMC Sierra. It has the 5.3 ltr magna charged headers intake and a beefed up stock tranny. Im in the process of rebuilding due to burning out a piston. The problem that i have is their are so many combonations and different variations of builds i could do i need a little guideance. Im looking at two roads. 1 keep my block have it bored due to scaring bigger pistons possibly crank and heads. slap the blower back on and rock out. Other option witch has been brought to my attention. sell the parts i have and get a 6.0 block and pretty much do to that what i would the 5.3 other than boring of course and including the blower. The heads for my stock 5.3 have already been cleaned and had the valve job done so that all the ports have the 3 sided sides. Also the 5.3 block has already been sonic tested and hot tanked and everything checked good. So any opinons or ideas would be greatly apprectiated. The truck is a lowered 2wd so im not out mudding or doing anything like that. I use it as my main mode of transportation and then to spank the occasional mustang or two when i feel like it haha. thanks again.

well that was my original plan until a bunch of people on other sites started raiseing all these questions about the 6.0. Im bias towards that anyways. But the main thing im trying to figure out is. In order to make the 5.3 scream what should i do about boring it. how big and what can it take. Do i port and polish my stock heads. Do i get 243 heads. do i need a diff cam do i need a diff. crank. I know im asking alot but im trying to build this thing my self. And this is the part i lack in expertise.

Really depends what your final goals are. If you want to keep it a RELIABLE daily driver then I wouldnt go too crazy on it. Keep the compression around 9:1-10.5:1 so you can still run pump gas and have good drivabilty out of boost. Dont bore it more then it needs to clean up the cylinders good and throw some good pistons in it and let her eat.
Of course, if money and reliabilty isnt a factor then there are many many routes you could go lol.
Anyone feel free to correct me if im wrong!!

I say full rebuild with .030" over forged flat top pistons. throw some 243s on it and be done with it. should work good with your 112..
i would say junkyard 6.0, but at least with a full rebuild u know what your getting for sure,

yea thats what i was thinking to.. Id rather just keep the 5.3 and add on. I dont need a drag truck but its nice to have a devil child under the hood when you want it ya know. And my budget is like 3k. I figure i can prob trade my heads in somewhere for some 243s seems how their already cleaned up with a valve job. So if i went that route would i need a new crank or cam. I was told the z06 cam slides right in. But then that turns me down another road i dont know. I dont know how the whole compression thing works with the blower. ..
