If you have had your block sonic tested, you should know if it's good to go to 3.9" overbore (LS1/5.7L size). If you're buying new pistons, you can get by with the much cheaper 317 heads while keeping the compression around 10:1. Last time I rebuilt a 5.3L, the piston selection was poor to say the least. LS1 piston size will offer a bunch of choices. The 317 heads flow similar to 243's, but cost only a fraction. Find you an LS7 cam for around 50 to 75 bucks. LS2,3, or 6 valve springs are cheap and all you'll need with that cam. That should make a pretty nice combo for you.

Do this...i just went thru the exact same decision. Put tsp 5.3 heads and a 212/218 in a 6.0, sooo glad I went that route...it runs so much better, still has 3.23's on 22's its my dd and made the truck so much more fun to drive. would love to see it with boost.

Im located in las vegas and i just spoke with a performance ls shop out here that said they can pretty much do anything i need for my 5.3 so i think thats the route im going to go. Now all i need is to figure out what pistons would work best for the package and thats step 1 i suppose. Thanks for all the help and ideas.**** and yea im pretty sure that it can go to the 3.9 bore. Thats the route im going to look into taking. It seems like the most reasonable for my pocket and what i want.
