New Valve Springs for an STS kit- Good idea?
Last preps before my STS install, and have noticed that a few companies are recommending going with dual valve springs/titanium retainers for the STS kit. Is this money well spent? I haven't heard this topic come up before, and generally thought you would only need new valvetrain comps. for a cam swap. Is there potential damage to the stock valvetrain due to high HP alone?
Thanks!
Thanks!

I put a used Z06 Cam and springs in my 4.8 and spin it to 6200 and 10 psi with no float. You can buy the LS6 yellow springs from SDPC for around 60 bucks. They are better then stock and good for .570 lift. Shouldn't have any float problems unless your really try to push the boost (15+psi) and RPM.

I am spinning my 6.0L to 5600 rpm and seem to be fine so far on the stock springs and 12 psi boost. I may be close to the limit but have seen no obvious float yet. Maybe I just don't know how to recognize it...LOL.
If you plan to spin your engine higher then I believe stronger springs may be in order. Depends on how far you want to go with it and on how worn your stock springs might be.

In response to the original post, i would go ahead and change them just for some extra piece of mind. When i get a chance to put on my new springs i'll be selling my ls6 springs for about $30 if your interested, they only have about 1k on them.

With the 6.0 (317 heads) and 10+ psi I would go bigger springs, can't remeber the post that talked me into it, I want with 918 springs. as far as cams... I'm not sure I have had VERY good luck with the stock lq4 cam..
