Oil question
As most guys know, we run a restrictor on the turbos for trucks. I am running a .065 on mine. During the hot summers here, the oil gets so hot I can smell it. I run the mobil 1 5w-30 truck and suv oil since i bought the truck. Should i consider swapping to a thicker oil like a 10w-30 or even heavier than that?
What are you guys that drive in hot climates doing? Keep in mind, under the hood on the cooler days in Mississippi is usually around 95-100 before starting the vehicle!
Thanks,
Chris

Dont get confused
"The first number, followed by W represents the low temperature viscosity, 5W, 10W, 15W... the lower this number, the more fluid at low temperature.
"The second number gives the high temperature viscosity: 30, 40, 50. The higher this number, the more viscous the oil at 100C/212F.
If the internals are stock,I would not personally run 20W-50 for example,These engines have tighter clearances therefor thicker oil can actually cause increased wear due to improper lubrication. That is if it is stock internals though.
Going from a 5W-30 to a 10W-30 for example is not much difference at normal operating temps like most think.
I personally run Amsoil ATM 10W-30 using UOA (used oil analysis) every now and then
