no the crank underdrive pulley is aftermarket not factory.
system is sealed.
bypass valve works right, not held open.
no grinding or bad bearing noise.
unit rebuilt 2000 miles ago.
your mortor is a 5.3 what mortor was it taken off of?

I have the stock crank pulley
System seems to be sealed (based on MAF readings and no engine codes being thrown)
I actually do think there may be a bad bearing/grinding noise, it doesn't sound as smooth as other eaton's I have heard
Yes, the unit was completely rebuilt (Doesnt mean it was done right) 2000k mi ago
I have a 2001 with the 5.3, it came off of a 2000 with the 5.3

system sealed.
bypass valve working right.
removed from a 5.3 and put on a 5.3, you should see the same boost the seller seen.
like you said rebuilt 2000 miles ago does not mean it was done right, and rebuilt 2000 miles ago does not mean that the seller took care of it very well.
a samller pulley will make you see more boost, and if something is wrong with it
a smaller pulley will make it break down faster.
i see two things, send it back to who every you bought it from for selling you a bad system.
or send it in unknowing how much it will cost to fix it.
if it was me i would have it all boxed up with the sellers address on it demanding my money back before i spent one dime on fixing it.

Well, I contacted the guy who I bought it from, he offered me a full refund on the system. He also has 2 years left on the rebuild warranty, so it would cost me nothing to send it in and get it rebuilt.

Ok, just read through a couple of posts by the guy who I purchased this kit from.
He had the exact problems I am having now, Cant get the tune right, only saw 3.5-4 lbs boost.
Another coincidence (sp?), when Allen was tuning my truck, we had just drivin about 1 mile when he told me to pull over b/c he was seeing really weird things.
Allen was like "Yeah, It is really weird, it is exactly like this one guy from Odessa that was having the exact same problems as you, we could never get his tune right and he ended up pulling it off."
Upon further talking, I come to find out that the guy that he was talking about is the same guy that I bought the unit from.
I think Im gonna send it back and get my money.

so is this a trend with the side mounts or is it this one particular unit that is so plagued with problems.
I have the side mount magnasun blower on a 2000 5.3, i dont have a boost gauge so iono if mine boost any good, it does seam a little weak for a blown 5.3L

Well, when I was researching which SC to get, This side-mount kit seemed the best and easiest to install. I read alot of good reviews and you know that it is good if Mr. John Lingenfelter himself used it on his vehicles.
I am sending it in to be inspected so I really hope that it is something wrong with the compressor itself.
