The Diesel's run 40+psi non wastegated, I would bet they are spinning it faster. My little GT4088R made 37psi at sea level on my o5 Dmax.

Is it done?

Looks like fun Chris. Is the other turbo a wash then? Or will you be able to rehab it?

You guys shouldn't be looking at only the peak boost and shift rpm's and rather graph out the operating rpm range and boost level. Then you can better figure out what boost/rpm and level/range will keep the compressor in the most efficient range to maximize the output of the compressor.

Here's an airflow table for a 408ci LS1...mine should be pretty close to this.

At 15 psi (2.02 pressure ratio) and 5700 RPM (which is where I plan to shift) it looks like my engine should consume roughly 76lbs/min of air. At 76lbs/min and 2.02 PR I will be close to the last efficiency line of the turbo.

I'm not sure what RPM the diesels usually run to, but I'm guessing it's somewhere around 4000. If you looks at 4000 RPM, you can take a linear extension of the chart out to 30 psi, which should give you about 82 lbs/min at 30 psi, which is about 3.04 pressure ratio. Looks like that's right in the meaty part of the table for the diesel guys.

I may try short shifting the engine and running more boost....should put the turbo more into it's efficiency range.
Diesel input/output is different from a gas engine.

Yeah I forgot about that. Thanks for the chart BTW, I'm sure you noticed that I stole it from your site

That's what its their for.....you guys use whatever you need. If we don't have it...contact us and we can send you a custom consumption chart.

Also yes....diesel will make about 80-85% of a gasser engine total output with a given turbo. Say a single GT4202 will make 1000hp on a gas engine....on a diesel it would max the unit out around 800-850hp.

Thanks Chris and Dr.Turbo. I was a little curious about the differences but it makes more sense now!

PS Stop stealing stuff off the internet Chris!

Soon! Soon! The other turbo is repairable, but I don't want to deal with it. Sold it cheap yesterday, and it can be someone else's headache to get repaired.

So what's my operating range, professor?

So if this turbo is good for 1000 hp on a diesel, does that mean it's good for 1200 on a gasser? Not that I'll take it anywhere near that high...
