Default Piston Rings ? And Eng. Compression Help.

Hey Guys Im Building A 5.7l Out Of A 5.3 Iron Block And My Question Is Witch Is Better To File Fit The Rings Or Just A Std. Piston Rings For 3.905 bore ,will The Std. Rings Work Fine Instead Of File Fitting The Rings Because I Cant Find Anybody That Can File Fit The Rings for me. And Also Will A Mahle Piston With -4cc With 317 6.0 Heads At 9.1 Compression Work Good and same as Some mahle Dish-16cc Pistons And A Smaller Cumbustion Heads Some 5.3 706 Heads At 9.1 Compression . The Pistion Dosent Has To Be Dish Right As Long Its At 9.1 Compression It Will Work The Same .so Thanks For Reading And For The Help ...this Eng Will Go On A Turbocharged With 10 To 15psi Thanks .

I wouldn't worry about file fitting them.

the -4cc pistons with stock 72cc 317heads on a 3.905 bore would put you right at:
Static Compression Ratio 9.36:1
Dynamic Compresion Ratio 7.32:1

but the -4cc pistons with stock 62-3cc 06heads would be about
Static Compression Ratio 10.35
Dynamic Compresion Ratio 8.07

If your going F/I I would probably go with the first set-up with the 317 heads because of the lower compression and better flowing heads.

hope this helps

-Joshua

You need to check the gap. Odds are you should be able to get away with non file fit ring. You might still have to open them up a little. I would run a high quality ring with a little more tension than stock. My stock bottom end 6.0 has a goos ring seal less than 2% leak down, but at around 15PSI Im blowing by the rings. The factory style rings just don't have enough tention to contain the cylinder pressure.

hey what about lower compression around 8.6 to 8.8 with this combo on my daily driver.
-with -9cc pistons with stock 72cc 317heads on a 3.905 bore would put you right at:
any body knows?. My compression calculator say 8.6 with .057 head gasket any body knows how thick is the original head gasket is it .057? thanks and with 0.001 deck clearance can anybody check.

-and are this rings good for FI engine :ACX105985Akerly and Childs1.5, 1.5, 3mm Low Tension File Fit Xtreme Piston Rings
or the
-3.905 1.5mm-1.5mm-3mm plasmaMoly lowtension pt#39050GK -wiseco brand or some -3.905 mahle plasma moley rings file fit with would be the ring for my build ,thanks for your help and reading.

I would shoot for 8.5-8.75:1, with a plasma molly ring set, with std tention oil ring. A non file fit may be hard to find. You can file your own rings it's not that difficult. Get manuel summit ring file, and practice first on some old rings. You can also by or make a tool to square the ring in the bore, when you check your gap.

wouldn't a lower compression on a daily driver be worse? I mean you wouldn't be making that much power UNTIL you got into boost. So on a DD you would have to be driving around in boost all the time? Am I making any sense?
