Powerdyne???
I can buy a powerdyne for my 04 5.3L for $800. I was hoping to find some info on them ie. reliability, power. I havn't seen any post on these so i dont know if this is a good thing or not. please let me know if i should do this.

I,ve been running a powerdyne since july 04 on my avalanche. Its OK on power but you have to wait on it like a turbo.I had a M90 sidemount on it for 2 months running at 10 lbs and it put the powerdyne to shame. If you don't mind the belt slipping(it drives me crazy!)its not bad power for $800

had one on a 5.7, blew the charger up twice, powerdyne fixed it for free, but it took them a month both times . The fuel pump went once also. I've had the best luck with prochargers, but for $800, how bad could it be?

well for $800.00 it is a start for a good project to get you in to the groove of being supercharged.
some extra things will be needed to get the full effect your looking for.
1. a set of 42 lbs injectors.
2. a gator back belt.
3. a custom tune 93 oct.
4. k&n filter
5. shorty or long tube headers
6. duel exhaust.
7. intercooler & pipe
8. 2.73 pulley for 10 psi
9. if needed a rebuild kit, unknown of how many miles on your used kit or how well it was treated.
10. a set Yokohama's or a set of Toyo proxies' for traction.
11. a good cam, springs and pushrods.
now the first 3 are a must, to feed it, to run it, and to make it all work.
4.5.6. can come later to help it breath.
7. will be a project in it's self but the out come will be well worth it as you will lower your air temps and raise the power of the supercharger.
now that the first 7 have been completed over a period of time ( not to kill funds ) it is time to raise the boost pressure and if needed time for a rebuild 8 and 9.
rebuild is very easy, requires a press, a wielding machine and a slide hammer, as you take it apart you will see that the inside bearing will stay in the head unit.
you will need a harden nut that will fit inside the bearing, wield it to the bearing and use a slide hammer to snap it out, now just press the new bearings back in to place with your new belt and your good to go.
at this point your going to need a retune for the new boost pressure and the fact it is now intercooled for more power, so far most tune shops offer this upgrade at a cost of free so now is the time to think about that camshaft, their are several good cams to use with this set up.
traction will be a issue, need tires to grip not slip.
this set up is a very good sleeper, the head unit is silent and all they will hear is the mild thump from your cam

Thanks for the info this should help out a lot. i think for 800 i shouldn't pass it up. im definitely gonna have to get some tire as im allready havin traction problems anywhere up to 40 mph. the s/c only has about 1500 miles on it. the guy im buyin it from put it on a z71 with 120,000 miles on it and didnt even tune. he would just jump in it and stick his foot in it needless to say he blew his motor pretty quick.

I bought a used powerdyne off of ebay, did a rebuild, upgraded my injectors and got a custom tune for it and only got 75 rwhp gain. If your looking for about a 100 HP max gain with excellent tuning then you could give it a shot. I am just letting you know my dissapointment with it. Sold it three months later to buy a cold fusion nitrous kit and a torque converter which produced way better results. You could also buy it since it is cheap and then turn around and sell it on ebay. I sold my kit for $1375 which is about the average price on ebay. You may get lucky and make some money.
