Default Quick Spool Valve

Would a quick spool valve be necessary on a Lq4 with a S480 turbo for my daily driven truck?

Are quick spool valves all what they're hyped up to be?

The 5.3 would probably never spool my turbo without it...so yes, they certainly do work as advertised. With the stock converter I'm at full boost by about 75 feet. Should spool much quicker with a better converter.

I would say its more about converter...If you have a 3k stall, the few RPM's you get from the spool valve will help. If its your stock converter then it might not make a differance.

I've got a 3000 Yank coming. I'll post up how the QSV/new converter combo spools the S400.

Nevermind, I found it but don't understand how it works without choking the exhaust off to much.

The valve opens as boost increases, so it regains full exhaust flow after the turbo spools up. The supra guys who run them leave the valve closed until they reach their target boost, and a hobbs switch triggers the valve to open up. I just run it straight off the manifold with no hobbs switch, though. Cracking pressure is 4-5psi, full open is about 9.
