Default STS turbo 5.3 question??

Hey, I have a 2003 gmc sierra 2wd with a 5.3 and 4l60e with a transgo shift kit in it. The truck currently has an volant intake, and a black-bear performance tune, courtesy of efi live. What I am wondering is, I am looking at a standard sts turbo kit. It includes everything with 44lb. injectors, wideband, pillar pod and the rest of the kit. I can get a brand new 6.0 still in the crate very cheap. Now my question is, is it worth the swap from the 5.3 to the 6.0. I recently had the tranny done, and ultimately would like the 4l80e , but money isnt gonna allow it right now. So should i stick with the 5.3 with around 50,000 miles, or opt for the 6.0. Second question is, is there anyway the sts system can be modified, and shortened to bring the turbo closer to the front of the truck, similar to the trick turbo, low mount system. I know it might be a little more fab work, but will I see a big increase in boost. Or should I look at leaving it in the stock location, and going bigger on the turbo. The problem is as well, this will be driven in the winter in snow and salt, so the air filter may be a problem as well. I know there are alot of posts on this, just seeing some ppl's opinions on swapping out and such. thanks

cory

5.3 turbo, or 6.0 turbo, it does not matter. Your trans is on the hit list.

Are you buying a new sts kit or a used one still in the box.

I am not sure that I would do a low mount at all with salt and slush to deal with. Why not the trick kit? BTW go for the 6.0 if it's really that cheap. Good luck!

It will be a used sts kit. It seems like a good deal for what is included. I know it is used, but I guess i will have to take that chance. If anything, I would like to upgrade the turbo. The 80e will definetely be on the list if I keep the 5.3. Its hard to say, because the ultimate would be the 6.0 with the 80e. I do some pulling, but it is a small 6x10 enclosed trailer for dirt bikes. The only thing about the kit, is i wish it was intercooled. I know its not a huge gain, and could easily be installed, but just for the reason of having an intercooler would be nice.
