Default STS turbo oil restrictor?

How many of you STS guys are using an oil pressure restrictor? I have the normal oil in the return pipe problem and I am thinking about putting a restrictor on my oil line. If you guys are using one, which one?

i run a .096 Nitrous jet in the feed line. Seems to work fine. Turbo see's hard use and has around 30,000 with no issues. I was getting oil in the intake under long boost sessions while towing. The restrictor seemed to help a little.

I am going to try the .065 restrictor from ATP. Anybody tried that one?

Smaller the better. I use ATP's restrictors all the time, or I build my own out of a #60 holley carb jet.

That's good information. Does the journal bearing in the turbo rely on any type of pressure to float as do main/rod bearings? Is there any advantage other than cooling to running without a restrictor?

You only need X amount of oil to the turbos. Restrictors are a must on ball bearing units because they dont require much oil at all. The journal style requires alot more, but needs to see a minimun of a certain amount of pressure in the line to the turbo. So a lot of times on the STS units, the scavange pump cant keep up with the 60psi we see from out motors. So if you drop it down by half, then you still have more than enough oil and you get less smokey and bandit get away smoke screans.

I had a restricter on there at one time, i think when that turbo was on my front mount setup, but I think I took it off before I sold it to you. It was just a brass 1/8 pipe close nipple I heated and half filled with solder and then drilled a 1/16 hole through it.

I use an oil restrictor. I am getting a little oil in my charge pipes but I think it is because of my Outerwears cover- I think I must have put too much water repellent on it. So I just took it off until I actually need it.
