Default swapping my turbo'ed v6 for V8? Syty

hello.

i'am new to this site, and really hope i can get some of your help.

First off all i owe a couple of Ty's and 1 Syclone.
annyway, since these trucks are kinda rare, imagine me living in the netherlands, and getting parts for these is hard and pricey.

i have one build Typhoon, with upgraded internals 4 bolt mains, vortec heads etc etc. and it holds up pretty well.
but i have already been true 6's engines or so, and i don't dailydrive it by annymeans (around 1200 miles a year). so i really want my syclone to be more relaiable, and upgrading a V6 is kinda pricey, and there are a hell off a lot v8's out there, that are just better build and stronger to begin with and cheaper.

so, my plan is getting an Ls1 or maybe the 5.3vortec and turbocharge it.. and i was wondering if this already has been done on a let's say S10 with remaining the 4wd/Awd.

any advice is welcome

Thanks

I'd say go for it!. My buddy has a Ty, and they run pretty good. Im not sure how difficult it would be to swap a V8 though?

Welcome to the site!

While there may not be much on here specific to the SyTys, there a lot of 4.8 / 5.3 / 5.7 / 6.0 turbo builds documented here. Many are 4wd and a few are AWD (mine was AWD until last summer).

Check these screen names: Parish8 (has done a 4.8, 5.3, 6.0 and 6.7 from single to twin turbo setups -- most recently a 5.3 in a ford fairmont!), 8altng (4.8 and 6.7), wb racing, wilde racing, quicksilverado, brian@jpa, and of course, me -- just to get you started.

I've seen a few people swap out V8's into their Syty's and S10's. There's one member on here who's doing that but he's only 2wd from what I remember.
Erik, if this isn't appropriate let me know but... I'd suggest cheching out http://www.syty.net . That's a forum for syty nuts. I used to have a Ty and loved it and those guys proved to be very helpful. Best of luck and wish you the best.

thanks aready, i'am already a member at Syty.net. most of the parts to do the swap i can get easily, like framepads, 4l80E conversion, for the transfercase, oilpan.
but i was mostly wondering to stay a bit on a budgetbuild (500-600hp) what block to choose, without really upgrading the bottem end.
what kinda headers to use, or flip the stock manifolds etc.
i have all the equipment to do the job, just not the knowledge at the moment about what block to choose from.
already sent parish a PM, cause i knew he builded a bad *** fullsize

Lol, asking parish might be overkill since he's putting 1200 hp down to his wheels. As far as what block to choose you'll be safe with a LQ9 or LQ4 6L block. With the stock bottom end you can push 15psi which will net you 500 - 600 rwhp. That is running close to the limit of the rods and pistons though. I know someone one here is running 15 psi on a stock bottom end 6L and doing fine. Actually speaking of parish he's running 18 psi on a stock 5.3L (+ springs I think) and seeing 600+ rwhp, and Turbo8 is running 20 psi on a stock 5.3L (except a set of heads).
Best place to ask about what heads you'll need is Richard @ WCCH (sponsor ---->). He'll lead you in the right direction in any case.
If you want a front mount you'll have to fab up your own manifolds or flip them but you'll have clearance issues on the drivers side I think. Or you could just buy Trick hot parts.
Only think I have to add is I remember how freaking PACKED the engine bay was in my Typhoon so I couldn't even imagine what you'll have to remove and replace or delete alltogether in order to make it all fit ok and still keep your 4wd capabilities.
