Default T3 T4 garrett turbo question

Its hard to find some one that really knows what there talking about. I have a t04e 50 trim , that has the t4 exhaust housing. The bushing spun and took some of the steal out of the center of the turbo making the new bushing slight loose which is making too much side to side shaft play. Im looking to buy at t3t4 60 trim that comes with no housings. Do you know if this will fit i want take my rebuild kit to build this core and change my to4e 50 trim to a 60. If it wont fit could I use my T4 turbine shaft and housings and use the t3t4 center of the turbo and 60 trim compressor wheel . I was told that the 50 57 and 60 trims all use the same compressor housing Is that correct?

This is going in my 99 yukon denali 5.7 I was getting great Boost out if it before the Bushing blew on me. I think it ran dry for a few mins and thats all it took to wear the bushing
1. can a t3 turbine wheel be used with a t4 housing ?
2. can a 60 trim compressor wheel be used in the same housing as a 50 trim ?

Cool

I would suggest you call Jose at Forcedinductions. I think he will be able to answer all your questions and supply the parts you need at a reasonable cost.

If any "steal" was taken out of any part of the turbo, I wouldnt feel safe running it, a new turbo is a lot cheaper then a new turbo and a new engine.....

FWIW, because of the high shaft speeds, turbos use whats called a floating bushing which means that the shaft is supposed to spin in the bushing and the bushing is supposed to spin in the housing. This divides the shaft speed the bushing sees by about half. There should be about .020 or so of side play in a normal turbo.

To anwer your question, no. The compressor housings are different for each wheel trim. Most TO4E's have a 2.95" exducer, and the inducer size varies per trim, ie a 50 trim has a 2.12" inducer and a 60 trim has a 2.29" inducer. The turbines work the same way with T3 wheels being smaller than T4 wheels. You should be able to have your turbo rebuilt with oversize bearings.

1. no and you wouldn't want to do that anyways. you'll choke your engine, unless your using two of these.

2. the compressor housings are only different in the machining. in addtion to the housing inles being different, your back plate will also be different.

if you wanted to upgrade to a 60, you'll need the wheel, housing and the backplate.

from what your describing, all you would need would be a new center section (roughly $100) and a rebuild kit ($100). this is all as long as the wheels and turbine shaft are in good shape.
