T76 : Going from a T3 to a T4 exhaust
Hey all,
I'm finally collecting my parts for the 5.3L swap into my Typhoon. My hope is to reuse my T76 ball bearing turbo. It is currently using a T3 exhaust housing, Q-Trim wheel, .85 a/r. I'm wondering what it would take to convert it to a T4 on the exhaust. It has a Garrett watercooled center section.
Can anyone shed any light on this?? I've never made that conversion before. I'm assuming converting it to a T4 .96a/r is what I want, is that correct? Or is there any way to run this turbo on a 5.3L? I'm sure it would run out in the top end, but would it be too much of a restriction for a DD? Oh, and this will be a front mount turbo.
Here's a few pics for reference:
Thanks

Cool, another Ty owner around here! I've seen you on the syty board, regarding your current 5.3 swap. I would contact Jose at forcedinductions.com. Those guys are really knowledgeable when it comes to what ex. housing and CHRA's you can use with what compressors. As far as A/R goes, I would try a .96 first and see how that goes. I have a .81 on the turbo in my sig and it works quite well with my smaller engine and higher boost. Once you switch the the T4 housing though it'll be easy to try out different A/R's.
