What turbo?
What ci?
What cam?
What et's you lookin to turn?
There is more questions but point is you can build a combo around your gears/tire selection that will build boost jus fine.

The biggest thing i have heard and read (the turbo forums. com) is that turbos tend to trap higher in their own sake and too high of gears and you run the chance of running out of gearing. Turbos will generally trap a higher speed than a N/a or n2o setup.

i completely agree with you guys about the taller gearing helping spool the turbo and thus resulting in insane traps BUT...what about the low end? i don't wanna swap my 3.73s back in and cut 2.x 60's.
say i did swap my 3.73's or even some 4.10 back in...do i want a looser converter or a tighter one?
i guess i need to read about other peoples setups more

Without starting a new thread I'd like to ask about my set-up. I have 4.10 gears and 4000 stall with turbo. I'd like to know if going to 3.73 will gain me mph and keep 60ft about the same. I got 1.68 60ft and almost 120 trap speed. Which gears are better for me and what will they improve?

I used to always believe the "load on a turbo" talk, and to an extent it is true. However, there are plenty of f-body guys running turbos as well.
You have to ask yourself, is a 5000 pound truck with 30" tall tires and 4.10s going to load a turbo better than a 3500 pound car with 26" tall tires and 3.73s.
I read on here somewhere where a guy was saying that lower gearing will still provide boost at the same time, it would just be at a higher rpm(the lower gearing would allow you to get to that point faster).
There is the argument that you might run out of gearing, but even a 115 to a 120 trap speed difference isn't going to make much of a difference unless you're right on the shift point.

Most folks base gear choices for the turbo cars. I went from 3.73s to 4.10s with a 31.5" tire. I am very happy with it. I would also suggest that the turbo be specd for gears as well as engine etc etc etc. Every thing should be in sync, gears, cam , heads, turbo, compression, intake, throttle body, intercooler. Everything should be suited for the entire build. Or screw all that and try the 4.56 gears with the turbo then swap to 3.73s and if you dont do well, swap back.

Im seriously considering going back to 3.42s with a turbo. My biggest problem with the 3.42s was if traffic slowed down to 50-55 mph on the highway the truck was just a ******* slug. You'd press the pedal but nothing would happen. With a turbo I'm fairly certain the truck would just get up and go, even at the low rpms. I could get my gas mileage back too.
