Default Thermostat ? for 5.3 radix

Is there a benefit to changing to a 160 degree thermostat for FI or should I just stick with my stock 190 degree. I have heard a 160 degree is not as good for a daily driver.

I don't think you'll see any benefit, on a daily driver.

Thanks Aklowrider thats kinda what I was thinking, just wanted to make sure. I see u have the VHP trucker cam. How does it sound with your maggie and also what kind of numbers does it put out. I'm trying to decide between the trucker and gt2-3.

I've got a 160* thermostat. My normal operating temperature runs around 185*. That's about 10* cooler than the stock 195* thermostat ran. The biggest difference I see is that it takes longer to get to operating temperature. With 30* morning temps it takes about 3 miles of driving for my torque converter to start locking up. It would start locking after about 2 miles with the stock thermostat. I've got e-fans that are set to come on at 195* so they rarely run at outside temps of 45* and lower. I figure it's a little extra insurance against KR.

These engines need to run at higher temps to burn off the condensation in the oil, I wouldn't suggest going with a lower one IMO.

Most people have not had great results with the lower temp thermostats, overheating problems with efans seems to be the biggest thing.
