Yah my mistake on the MPG, not to start a pissing match with ya on the mph it will go, but not 55 with 220 hp srry. Tech it should be knots which is about 1.2 mph for 1 knot.. The bridge thing isn't a legit way to declare the speed..And the water pickup speedo is garbage. I would look into a nice exhaust setup for it from eddie marine, a new intake manifold. With it being a 96 it is still a carbed motor correct.. Thats where I would start.. You going to spend just as much on a turbo or blower set up as you will build a nice healthy small block for it... Also a alpha will hold hp in a lighter boat, I am putting 400+hp through one in my 202 stinger, just have to be smart and don't pull hole shots..
