Default Turbo advice...

So I'm having a hard time letting go of the turbo setup

Let me preface why I'm getting away from the current setup. Truck may be going back to DD duty starting in June. Truck currently only runs on E85, I've never boosted it on gasoline due to the high compression (10.6:1). I want to go back to gasoline so I can drive long distances and I want to be able to knock down at least 16 mpg highway.

I realized I can still use my T6 kit and put a smaller S400 turbo on it with the baby 83 turbine.

My goal is to be able to run safe on gasoline 93 octane, NO meth and 500-600 rwhp with basically instant spool. I'd like to mimick a PD charger setup but with the turbo. Something responsive like Atomic's old 408/1900 setup. The cool thing would be, if I ever get the itch to touch 1k again, it's just a turbo swap away.

I can get a S400-64/83/1.10 T6 for $575. The 64mm compressor wheel is rated for 780 hp, but I doubt it would do anywhere near that on a 6.0. You don't see much info out there about small turbos on bigger engines, but I do remember Bill Reed was a proponent and also silveradoL33 made 681 rwhp in his lifted truck on a 5.3/s468 combo (impressive!).

My truck is 11.1cr is instant spool with a 224/224 114 jfr cam

No stall i saw 2500 rpms and 7 psi with no 2 step like nothing...enough to break my front diff and axle

Cruising i see 7 psi anytime im on highway just giving it throttle..6th gear 2000 rpms ill see 5psi with cruise on going up slight grade

Calculations puts combo around 580rwhp on 12* on 93 with a br7ef plug

My guess would be to have a turbo thats small enough for instant spool like you could get from a PD blower (all relative... it still wont hit like a blower) it will also fall off on the top end.

That's what I have always felt on factory turbo cars anyway... They spool quick but suck wind up top. Short shifting them solves the issue.

It should be a mean street machine. I'm excited to see how this unfolds.

I think that 64/83 would do quite well actually.

I came to the conclusion the 64 (63.5mm) compressor would be too small.

I found a VERY interesting box stock BW unit on ebay

67mm ETT wheel (the 64 compressor is non-ETT) rated at 95 lbs/min - should easily support my goal of 600 rwhp
.66 AR compressor "Race cover"
87/80 turbine
1.25 AR T6 housing

The only thing I'm confused about is I've never seen this 1.25 T6 housing before. It looks tiny compared to my current 1.32 housing and more similar to my old 1.0 T4 housing. It even looks tiny compared to the 1.10 T6 housing. I'm wondering if it's really just the 1.25 T4 housing with a T6 footplate.

What about Forced Inductions S372? It's their version of the S300sx-e. It'll come in a T6 housing of your choice. Not sure how small you want to go on the turbine wheel.

I just got the S369 for my build which flows 105lbs/min.

The S369 is a completely different turbo than the S400 stuff. Much smaller.

I'm not familiar with their S372 but it sounds like a T4 turbo. As far as Borg goes for the S400 stuff, SX3 denotes T4 and SX4 denotes T6

I need an S400 based unit that will be a direct replacement for my current turbo

Yea true. I'm not sure how much different the flanges are on them. I am interested to see how it turns out though!

You need a second vehichle

You can most defintley make 550-600 on pump gas only .

I made 563 in second gear dyno @12psi no meth and restrictive headers, single 255 pump thru an 80e and t case .

You can do it .

Its hard to give up forced induction thats for sure .

It's hard to give it up when you are DESTROYING cars at the track and getting wtf looks in the pits

Anyways, ordered my new turbo from Smeding Diesel

S464
64.5 mm ETT compressor wheel
83/74 mm turbine
1.10 T6 housing

Direct replacement for my 80/96/1.32. The 64 wheel is rated for 80 lbs/min. FI has it listed as an 820 hp turbo on their site. So it should be good for 600 rwhp but it will probably be right at it's limit with high IATs. But spool will be maximized. My old S475 compressor was rated for 105 lbs/min at was tapped out right at 850ish rwhp based on track times.
